Greek Goddesses and Gods played an important role in the life of the average ancient Greek people. They would pray and offer up gifts to these spiritual entities. There were many different types and they helped to explain various aspects of a persons life. The main gods, like Zeus or Poseidon might have been responsible for changes in the weather, earthquakes and very real events that affects the lives and livelihood of a person.

Other gods or goddesses might be used to explain their inner lives. For instance, Aphrodite was the Goddess of Love. She explained the concept of love to people and gave them a personification of this profound human emotion.
Another example is the Greek fertility Goddess, Persephone. She would explain the seasons and people would worship or supplicate themselves to her for good crops or even personal fertility.
Having Gods and Goddesses like these explained how people should act and what they could expect from life. It gave then meaning and understanding. This meaning and understanding was often transmitted to the average person through myths and mythology. This was often done orally via storytelling. Much of this storytelling has lasted through to the present day and films, TV shows, computer games and literature still feature Greece’s favorite gods and heroes. Indeed a new film coming out soon is a remake of the famous clash of the Titans that includes many of the main Greek gods.
Here are some other famous Greek Goddesses and what they did or represented
