Greek Nobleman Costume

The Greek states like Athens, Crete and even Sparta are often said to be the cradle of western civilization. It all started in what is now known as Greece.

Western Europe and by extension many of the lands that were colonized by Western Europe have been influenced by some of the concepts that were first discussed or invented in these small states on the shores of the Aegean sea.

Ideas like Democracy and republics, philosophical notions, mathematical theorems and everything in between have been influenced by the like of Aristotle, Plato, Socrates, Pythagoras, Hippocrates and many more. So this Halloween why not take your place in the cradle of western civilization, with the likes of Socrates and dress in a Greek Nobleman Costume.

The writings and pictorial records of ancient Greece suggest that the people wore fairly loose fitting and skimpy garments. What we might call a toga or a tunic. No doubt it got cold in Ancient Greece from time to time but I guess generally the climate was good and accommodated this sort of outfit.

So this Greek costume fits the profile of a tunic or toga in white as the main part of the outfit. From the looks of the picture it is quite a brief looking number with a hem above the knee..so you’ll have to wear some underpants and be careful when you are sitting down. Do want to show the whole world your crown jewels.

Of course, seeing as you are a nobleman of high standing in the state of Athens, your tunic is not complete as just plain white. It has gold accents, meaning there is a raised trim of gold material on the edges of the costume, particularly the hem and the shoulders and neck. There is also a similar gold trim around the midriff making it look a bit like a belt.

The final flourish of the Greek Nobleman Costume is the burgundy cape that is worn on one shoulder.

Wear some sandals to make it look more realistic, however sandals are not provided with this costume so you will have to get your own. This is basically a deluxe toga costume that is great to wear to toga parties of fancy dress parties during the Halloween holiday season.
